Judaism's environmental policies begin with Genesis. A framework is defined on how man should relate to the earth's resources. Policies are detailed further in both narrative and Jewish law aspects of the Hebrew Bible, Mishnah, Talmud and midrashic literature, rabbinic responsa and Jewish thought. At the beginning of modernity, Judaism had the most developed environmental policies among Western religions.
